Summary:
Charles introduces the story of Wallstreet Panic Snopes by referring to Gavin's contention that Eck, Wall's father, was not a true Snopes. Wall's own story begins with his determination, as soon as his family arrives in Jefferson, to get an education to get ahead. He and his brother enter kindergarten. Always forward-thinking, "he wasn't ashamed to enter the kindergarten; he was just ashamed to stay in it" (134). He quickly advances.
