TMT: While it could be argued that this passage is narrated rather than remembered, I have chosen the latter because of how Hightower echoes the notion of his grandfather "'deodorised' ... of sanctity somewhat" (473). It seems to me that he has been in a reverie that he then slightly corrects in the present time of August 1932.
