Unnamed Auditors

In "Centaur in Brass," two auditors going over Jefferson's books discover the missing brass during two yearly audits. Deferential to Flem Snopes when they discover the missing brass, they nevertheless insist on the accuracy of their findings: "We checked our figures twice, Mr. Snopes" (158). Harker later refers to them as "them two audits" (163).

Turl

Turl works as the night fireman for Jefferson's power plant in "Centaur in Brass." It's well-known in town that he has "prowled at least once (or tried to) every gal within ten miles of town"; his affair with co-worker Tom-Tom's "high yellow wife" occasions the "centaur" part of the story's title (160). Turl has to be the source of much of the story that Harker tells to the narrator, but readers only hear Turl's voice directly in a few places.

Unnamed Union Sergeant(2)

This Sergeant in the Union cavalry unit Rosa Millard encounters in Alabama objects to his young Lieutenant's decision to honor the requisition she carries.
