In "Centaur in Brass," two auditors going over Jefferson's books discover the missing brass during two yearly audits. Deferential to Flem Snopes when they discover the missing brass, they nevertheless insist on the accuracy of their findings: "We checked our figures twice, Mr. Snopes" (158). Harker later refers to them as "them two audits" (163).
