Description:

General Forrest asks if he can "reach the Holly Branch road" from the Sartoris place "without having to go through Jefferson" (695). "Holly Branch" might be Faulkner's fictional name for the real town north of Jefferson called Holly Springs, site of a real Confederate raid in 1862 on a Union supply depot, but if so, it's on the same road as the Sartoris place, and Forrest would have just ridden down it. So it's more likely Faulkner imagines "Holly Branch" in the direction of New Albany and/or Ripley. If so the road Forrest needs to reach is the one that (in other Yoknapatawpha texts) goes past the McCaslin and McCallum places. And in that case, the answer to Forrest's question is Yes.
