Versh tells Benjy a story that Dilsey told him about how Benjy's grandfather changed a "nigger's" name and he turned "bluegum". He meets a woman who soon has about "a dozen bluegum chillen running around" and then is never seen again, until he is discovered by "possum hunters". As it turns out, he was eaten by the "bluegum chillen".
