Sartoris Plantation in "My Grandmother Millard and General Bedford Forrest and the Battle of Harrykin Creek" (Location)
Bayard's narrative mentions many different rooms in the big house on the Sartoris plantation, including "the library" (667), "the kitchen" (667), "the attic" (668), the bedrooms for Rosa, Father, Melisandre, Bayard (and Ringo), "the dining-room" (670) and "the parlor" (680). The bedrooms are upstairs, and the kitchen is almost certainly semi-detached from the main building. The house has a "back gallery" (a veranda or porch, 669), which implies a front gallery as well. In other fictions, especially Flags in the Dust, the Sartoris mansion is described in considerable detail, as one of the finest plantation houses in Yoknapatawpha. Although Bayard does not go into much detail in this story, we get an idea of how well-furnished the house is from the amount of time it takes to collect the family's valuables each time they fill the trunk. The plantation also includes a large number of outbuildings, including a "smokehouse" (686).
