Summary:
After his son is born, Doom begins to organize his plantation "as the white people did," buying additional slaves, cultivating the land and entertaining "guests" with mock slave hunts (318). Because there is "never enough for them to do," the majority of the tribe's slaves lead "lives transplanted whole out of African jungles" (318).
