Summary:

Cass Edmonds briefly notes that at some point after Gettysburg, the Confederate General Longstreet was shot "by his own men in the dark by mistake just as Jackson was" (273). Historically, Longstreet was shot - but not fatally - at the Battle of the Wilderness. To Cass, it's another part of the pattern that proves the Southern cause was defeated by an unjust fate, a god that turned away.
