Summary:

According to Shreve, Rosa must have "foreseen" Sutpen's death at the hands of Wash Jones. This is the first time in the novel that details about Sutpen's death like the "rusty scythe" are provided, and it is not at all clear how Shreve himself came to know so much about the event, though he does refer to a comment by Rosa ("how did she put it") which suggests that Rosa may have told the details to Quentin who told them to Shreve - but this is speculative (145).
