Issetibbeha's unnamed servant was born in "Guinea" (327), a term which includes much of the modern nation of Cameroon. He was "taken" into slavery "by a trader off Kamerun" (327-28). A high percentage of the people taken to America and sold into slavery originally came from this area in West Africa.

The "stable" where the unnamed slave was kept when he had "just come to America" could be anywhere along the southeastern coast, but Savannah was a major entry point for captured and enslaved Africans, so we have chosen to locate it there (330).
