Requiem for a Nun, 27 (Event)
The narrator gives a date in this event - "it was barely the tenth of July" (29) - that seems definitive, but cannot be reconciled with the number of days that have elapsed since July 4th, when the militia gather in the settlement; the discrepancy seems to have been introduced on page 5, when the narrator refers to the date on which the militia band brings the bandits into the settlement as "the fourth morning," i.e. July 7. Probably this should have been 'the third morning,' which would make the date of this event July 10, but since text says "the fourth morning," we have dated this event July 11.
Having been joined by Louis Grenier, the settlers eat "Holston's noon ordinary" (i.e. the lunch served at the hotel), then while watching the slaves finish building the courthouse they discuss the further ramifications of the missing lock (28).
