Description:

The road that Stevens drives along to get from Jefferson to the site of the inquest on Lonnie Grinnup's body is described as "eight miles" long (70). Because Lonnie lives "almost in the exact center of the thousand and more acres his ancestors had once owned" (71), and the first of these ancestors was a "Grenier" (the original Old Frenchman, 70), we assume the road leads out of Jefferson to the southeast, where the hamlet of Frenchman's Bend sits near the river.
