Jason jumps up from the dining room table and runs to Miss Quentin's bedroom door where Dilsey stands calling her name. Mrs. Compson follows. Jason takes Mrs. Compson's keys. Jason opens the door and they all see that Miss Quentin is not in her room. Mrs. Compson demands that they "find the note." Jason runs to his room, finds his metal box, and sees that the lock is broken. Dilsey takes Mrs. Compson to her room and then walks to Jason.
