In a conversation about drinking perfume and mint juleps, Quentin recalls a confrontation between Caddy and Benjy that led to Quentin following Caddy to the creek where he proposes his willingness to tell everyone that he made her commit incest with him. He proposes to take the money for Harvard and run away with Caddy where one will know her virtue had been compromised (according to cultural standards). Caddy will not let him because the money for Harvard came from selling Benjy's pasture.
