Summary: 

In a fairly shabby room, the local Squire hears the case against Quentin as a supposed kidnapper. There is little respect for Julio as a "durn furriner" or for the Harvard students, but when it becomes clear that the little girl was not hurt, Quentin is forced to pay a fine and let go (143).
