Mrs. Winterbottom's Boarding House in Flags in the Dust (Location)

"Miz Winterbottom's" is where the two Yankee "cyarpet-baggers" who try to organize the emancipated slaves to vote are boarding, and it is here that Colonel Sartoris seeks them out and kills them - before apologizing to Mrs. Winterbottom for "mussing up [her] guest-room" with the murder (243). (Faulkner narrates this shooting in two later novels - Light in August and The Unvanquished; in that last account he relocates it in the Holston House, the oldest hotel in Jefferson.)
