Biography:

In his 1946 Appendix to The Sound and the Fury was published, Faulkner says that Frony "married a pullman porter and went to St Louis to live (343). But the person whom Dilsey refers to as the "pappy" who's going to "come home" and punish Luster (59) cannot be this man. If Dilsey is referring to Luster's biological father - and not, for example, to his uncle Versh, whom she told Luster would "take a stick to you when he comes home" just a page earlier (57-58), then this is the novel's only mention of Luster's male parent.
