Description:

The museum that Mrs. Grier and her son tour, which had been made possible by "an old lady born and raised in Jefferson who died rich somewhere in the North and left some money to the town to build a museum with" (110), appears to be modeled after the Mary Buie Museum, which opened in Oxford in 1939; Buie, an artist, left her estate and her art collection to the town after her death in 1937. (The museum has been owned and operated by the University of Mississippi since 1974.)
