The Hamlet, 128 (Event)
Note 1: Date
This is a key moment in the text when the dates are ambiguous. The "for two years" could refer to "two years after the first year, i.e. after the 'within the year' reference 10 lines earlier. This is only way we get the 6 years novel says Labove taught to line up with the 5 years it says Eula attended, and with the next section on when Labove graduated, etc.
Note 2: Location
Even though this is registered as one long continuous event Labove actually shuttles between multiple locations: school, University, and the sawmill he works at.
Over the course of two years Labove is hard pressed to leave Frenchman's Bend in order to get away from Eula. He therefore makes every possible effort to stay away from the schoolhouse by working with dogged determination.
