Summary: 

The first story reconstructed from the ledgers is that of a slave named Percival Brownlee, and seems at least at first as essentially comic. Fifteen entries, alternately written by Buck and Buddy, record Brownlee's apparent inability to perform any of the tasks assigned to him, and his masters' inability to figure out how to solve the problem that he poses.
