The Digital Yoknapatawpha Project

This is the "straight stretch of road about two miles from town" where Manfred de Spain and Lucius Hogganbeck raced cars on Sunday afternoons (61).

Major de Spain's "hunting camp" is located in "the Big Bottom," the wilderness area in the northwestern part of Yoknapatawpha (45). A major location in many of Faulkner's stories, the site is only mentioned briefly in The Town, which does not include the camp's history as having originally been built as a fishing camp by Thomas Sutpen.
