Varner's Store in As I Lay Dying (Location)

In the Yoknapatawpha fictions as a group, Will Varner is the largest land owner in Frenchman's Bend, the proprietor of the local store and a veterinarian. In this novel he is brought into the narrative when Jewel rides from Armstid's to see if Doctor Peabody is "at Varner's" (185). Because the doctor is not there, Varner himself returns with Jewel to treat Cash's leg.

Mrs. Bundren's House in As I Lay Dying (Location)

On their way to the cemetery the Bundrens stop to borrow a shovel at a "little new house" from which Cash can hear music playing on a record player, or as he calls it, a "graphophone" (236). Anse goes into the house for the shovel, and also finds a woman there who the next day becomes "Mrs. Bundren," his new wife (261). We never learn her other names.

Unnamed Sexual Partners of Caddy

Quentin asks his sister Caddy about her sexual experience - "Have there been very many" - she replies, "I don't know too many" (115). Although we know it is Dalton Ames with whom she loses her virginity, among the other males she is associated with before Ames are the fellow Quentin contemptuously identifies as the "town squirt" (134) she kisses, the "pimple-faced infant she met at the field-meet" (92), "the town squirts that Father was always teasing her about" (174), and Charlie, the boy she is with in the hammock when Benjy finds her.
