Jefferson Post Office in The Sound and the Fury (Location)

On his way to work, Jason makes a brief stop at the "postoffice" to get the mail (189). In the story "A Rose for Emily," published the year after The Sound and the Fury, Jefferson gets "free postal delivery" to homes before 1924. There the change to home delivery is an important sign of progress, although characteristically Emily herself ignores it. There's no way to know whether the fact that the Compsons get their mail at the post office in 1928 rather than at home is meant to say something about Jefferson in this novel, however, or about the Compsons, or perhaps just about Jason (for example, is having it kept at the post office Jason's way of making sure that his mother will never see the mail before he does?).
