Biography: 

In the final chapter of the novel, "Go Down, Moses," Gavin thinks briefly about consulting "the sheriff" for help finding Butch Beauchamp for Mollie (355). There are two other 'sheriff's in the novel, another unnamed one in "The Fire and the Hearth" and Sheriff Maydew in "Pantaloon in Black." They are essentially contemporaneous, but the text does not suggest any connection between any of them - so we have created three separate "Sheriff" entries.
