Biography:

Like a number of crowds or groups of people in The Hamlet, the folks who ride various wagons on various roads in and around Frenchman's Bend cannot be individualized or broken up into smaller groups. At one point this set includes Flem Snopes, when along with many other people in wagons he pauses the wagon carrying his belongings to Jefferson to watch Henry Armstid digging up the garden of the Old Frenchman place, but as a set of characters the people moving along the country roads are too dynamic and variable, for they together - up to "four generations" (404) of men, women and children - constitute a complex interrelation of trade, labor, and migration that is ongoing.
