Photo Gallery: Parchman Penitentiary, Parchman, Mississippi

The Mississippi state prison at Parchman is a maximum-security facility that has been in operation since 1901. One of its distinguishing characteristics is that the prisoners work as laborers in the cotton and corn fields around the prison, which is why it is better known as "Parchman Farm." It is mentioned or used as a location in 9 of the Yoknapatawpha fictions.
