Photo Gallery: Oxford, Mississippi
These 46 photographs of Oxford were taken over 4 decades by at least 4 different photographers. The first photo was made by Walker Evans, one of the most famous of the photographs who worked for the Farm Security Administration during the Great Depresstion. The 1949 photos were taken during the filming of Intruder in the Night and include at the end a photo of Faulkner himself alongside Clarence Brown, the movie's director. The largest group of photos, from 1960-1961, were made by Martin J. Dain during the several trips he made to Oxford and Lafayette for the purpose of creating a visual record of Faulkner's County, as he titled his 1964 book which printed photographs alongside passages from Faulkner's fiction.
