Description:
In the Choctaw language, "Oklahoma" means "red people." The "Oklahoma territory" to the west of the Mississippi River was the land to which many tribes - including the Chickasaws who once lived in Yoknapatawpha - were sent by the American government during the 'Indian removals' of the first half of the 19th century (200).
