Summary:
Chick and Gavin have a conversation about the futility of becoming a lawyer in the face of the looming war in Europe. Gavin gives Chick tickets to Europe the following summer as a present. He does so as he believes this will be Chick's last chance to see the continent before war comes, at which point he may be drafted and, according to Gavin, "may have to die in it" (230).
