The Mansion, 216 (Event)

Chick Mallison is unclear about the sequence of events, but at some point, Melisandre "committed the irrevocable error of getting a year older" (216). Presumably, Gavin no longer wants to tutor her because she has become potential marriage material. While Chick is uncertain about when this happens, this could only have happened in the period before Heidelberg, as Gavin gets embroiled in World War I while studying there. This makes the window incredibly small: somewhere around 1913-14. Still, he makes his last-ditch effort for Linda right before Heidelberg.
