Summary:

The three men arrive at the Old Frenchman place, and Eustace Grimm comes out of the house. Armstid attempts to assault the intruder, but Bookwright stops him, and Ratliff tells Eustace to leave. Armstid immediately sets off to work in the garden, although the other two want to eat first. When Ratliff and Bookwright catch up with Armstid, Armstid runs back into the road, since Eustace has not yet left, but is sitting in his wagon at the road. As Armstid approaches, Eustace rides off.
