The Hamlet, 385 (Event)

Ratliff, Armstid and Bookwright find no new bags and conclude that the "bulk of the treasure" must be buried much deeper; otherwise it would have been found long ago (385). They fill in their holes and cover up their nightly labor, and then they open their respective bags which contain twenty-five silver dollars each, except for Armstid's, the bearer of which will not let anyone know. They determine how they should proceed and, because they believe that they have been spied upon during their labor, they resolve to buy the Old Frenchman's Place immediately. The three men wake a dozing Bolivar, and they return to the buckboard in which Ratliff securely stows two of the bags, but Armstid refuses to be parted with his treasure.
