Summary:

Ratliff and Bookwright discuss the return of Flem before Mink's trial and speculate that Flem wouldn't abandon family entirely even if his reason is self-interested in wanting to get the I.O.U.'s that Mink uses out of circulation. Bookwright asks if Ratliff gave his own five dollars to Henry Armstid, which Ratliff denies.
