Summary:

Ratliff and the men discuss Henry's broken leg and his eagerness to capture his horse. Flem arrives, and Lump gleefully prods the conversation back to the question of the original owner of the horses, which Flem dismisses in his customary curt manner. Saint Elmo Snopes appears on the road and disappears, and the conversation among the men turns first to Mrs. Tull's legal case against Eck and then to the Armstids.
