Summary:

Eck's horse continues to flee until at last it comes face to face with Tull and his family's wagon on the bridge. The horse runs straight between the mules, which attempt to turn the wagon around. The horse jumps up on the wagon and manages to gallop free again, but the mules, having pulled the wagon sideways on the bridge, free themselves from the wagon's traces, pulling Tull, whose hands are intertwined in the reins, out of the wagon, face-first into the bridge, and along the ground for several paces. Eck and his son run up, inquiring which way their horse has fled.
