Summary:

The howling of the hound at night forces Mink into a new routine where he sleeps through the day. Now, his state of life deteriorates after killing Houston. Living alone, he now longer bothers to cook his food or to wash his clothes or shoes; after the cold peas and coffee run out, he eats animal meal and drinks warm water sweetened with sugar. At dusk each evening, he listens to the howling of Houston's hound.
