Do we need to add the Unnamed Gentlemen of the Jury as characters?--LW
TMT: I don't think so; they are more imagined than there.

Summary:

Entering his house, the Judge takes off his "pajamas" and gets into his "recently pressed" clothes (797). It seems as if he lies down in the "close dark" coffin that the mourners have gathered around (797), and prepares for sleep. The story's last words - addressed by the Judge to "the Jury" (798) - seem to leave open the question of what has happened and what it proves.
