Description:

The county courthouse and the Square around it that sit in the center of Jefferson is at the center of many of Faulkner's fictions. Its place in our representation of the "Appendix," however, is a function of the practice, throughout the Digital Yoknapatawpha data, to locate characters and events that cannot be associated with any specific location there, "in" the Square as an equivalent to "somewhere in Jefferson or Yoknapatawpha." Here, it is where the we locate these groups: "the whole town and county" (329) and Jason III's "living fellow townsmen" (330).
