Courthouse and Square in "Beyond" (Location)

Courthouse Square sits at the center of Jefferson, and at the center of Yoknapatawpha, and also at the center of many of Faulkner's fictions. The courthouse itself, which sits at the center of the Square, is where Judge Allison conducts trials during his years as a federal judge. He has an office across the street from it; on his way back from Beyond, he "look[s] up at the clock on the courthouse, as he never failed to do on descending his office stairs" (795).
