Notes:

After Caroline went upstairs for the evening, Jason finished his cigar. He heard Caroline say good night to Quentin. When he went up stairs, he saw the light on in Quentin's room, but he could not hear a sound. He said, "she studied quiet." Jason goes to his room and counts the money he hid in a box. Hears Benjy snoring and thinks about Benjy's castration because he chased down a girl in the streets. Jason dreams of making a killing in the stock market, and says, after that "they can bring all Beale Street and bedlam in here and two of them can sleep in my bed..."

Summary:

Jason retires for the night. In what may be a nightly ritual, he gets the money he has hidden in his closet and "counts it again" - "again" because he had come home earlier in the day to count it too (263).
