Miss Quentin enters Jason's workplace demanding her mail from Caddy. She and Jason argue about the money because he refuses to give her the money order. A customer interrupts them. When Jason returns, he finds Miss Quentin has her hand in his desk drawer where the letter is hidden. Jason took the letter away from her, "beating her knuckles on the desk until she let go." They argue. She tells him she needs at least ten dollars to pay back a girl at school. Miss Quentin realizes Jason is stealing her money; she confronts him about it. Jason reminds her that Caroline burns the checks. Jason forces her to sign the money order, and he gives her ten dollars.
