Description:
The milk separator that the narrator's mother wants is sold in a hardware store. A number of Yoknapatawpha texts include hardware stores in town; the one where Jason Compson works in The Sound and the Fury (1929) belongs to a man named Earl. And "Uncle Ike McCaslin" (121) appears in various roles several Yoknapatawpha texts as well (121), including the central one in Go Down, Moses (1942), but either as a hunter or a carpenter rather than a small businessman. In this short story, however, the store (and the "warehouse" behind it, and even the "alley" behind it; 129, 128) are all identified with Ike. He again owns the hardware store in Faulkner's last novel, The Reivers (1962).
