Biography:

Candace "Caddy" Compson is the younger sister of Quentin Compson and the older sister of Jason Compson (brother Benjy Compson, with whom she has a close relationship in The Sound and the Fury, does not appear in "That Evening Sun" ). She enjoys commanding Nancy to work and teasing Jason about being scared of the dark, an expression of her brassy and intrepid personality that in The Sound and the Fury(1929) leads her away from the Compson Place, Jefferson, and finally, in the new section for that novel that Faulkner wrote in 1945, the United States. She is still too young to understand the fears that haunt Nancy or the meanings of dialogue exchanged by adults, particularly concerning sex and Nancy's pregnancy.
